Hanyu, Japan Awaits for UB's 2026 Student Exchange Program

Here’s your chance to take your academic reach to international heights in Japan! The University of Baguio, in collaboration with the city government of Baguio, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Sister Cities Student Exchange Program. A prestigious program offering one (1) high school student the opportunity to travel to Hanyu, for a 7-day immersion into Japanese culture and academic life.

2026 HANYU, JAPAN STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM 

Host Institution: Sister Cities Student Exchange

  • Program duration: October 29 to November 4, 2026
  • DEADLINE OF APPLICATION May 5, 2026

Program details:

  • Arrangement for housing shall be a homestay with a local Japanese family
  • Academic and grades assessment of 80 and above
  • Reciprocity: The chosen applicant’s family must be willing to host a student from Hanyu during their return visit to Baguio City next year

Qualifications:

  • Open to Science High School and  High School students 
  • Academic and grades assessment of 80 and above
  • With an endorsement letter from the Principal, noted by the University President
  • Physically fit to participate in program activities
  • With no disciplinary records
  • Willing to stay in Japan for seven (7) days 

Application Requirements:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Accomplished Application Form
  • Letter of Application (minimum of 500 words) addressing the following:
    • interest in joining the Student Exchange Program
    • academic background and achievements
    • relevant skills, experiences, or projects
    • how the program will contribute to your personal and academic growth
    • how you plan to apply what you will learn after the program
    • personal contribution to the development of programs, initiatives, or learning community

Waived Fees:

  • Accommodation and Meals (covered by the City of Hanyu and host families)

Fees to be shouldered by participants:

  • Airfare to and from Japan
  • Academic Mobility Fee
  • Visa processing fees

Program Benefits:

  • Firsthand experience of Japanese culture and daily life through a homestay arrangement, fostering global citizenship and academic enrichment
