On February 6, 2026, members and representatives from the University of Baguio visited the Golden Mile Business Park, Special Economic Governor’s Drive, Cavite, to officially seal the strategic partnership with ONSEMI (ON Semiconductor Philippines – Carmona Site). Having the partnership to open opportunities for the management, faculty, and students to gain an immersive experience inside a global semiconductor company.
The joint signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was led by Engr. Gary Glenn R. Dirige, General Manager of Onsemi Philippines, with the product development manager and UB alumna, Ms. Shaila Mantes, along with the HR and Learning & Development team. Represented by UB’s School of Information and Technology (SIT) Dean, Ms. Ellen Halover, and accompanied by Director of the Linkages Office, Ms. Melanie Rulla Saro, along with program chair Mr. Maynard Soriano and Mr. Julius Caesar Monico, SIT faculty.

The organizational initiatives of both parties recognize the importance of stepping into the light of globalization. Supporting initiatives for modern technological advancements in the 21st century. The joint agreement and signing with the university’s accredited national partner aim to produce a strong bond between the institution and management information systems (MIS) handling and oversight, as well as having observations and a guided tour around the facilities responsible for crucial assembly, testing, and packaging for front-end fabrication, design, equipment manufacturing, and distribution. Creating an avenue for MIS and IT internships and on-the-job-training opportunities for selected students of the institution.
Advancements in the partnership directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly:
Goal 4 (Quality Education) – aiming to provide quality education by strengthening relevant skills and practices for professional work
Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) – fostering meaningful collaboration between academia and industry toward inclusive and sustainable growth

Strengthening the industry-academe collaboration by providing opportunities for internships, mentorship, and exposure to advanced manufacturing environments that will elevate students’ knowledge, skills, professional attitudes, and values. This milestone positions UB as the first higher education institution in Northern Luzon to partner with onsemi, reinforcing the university’s commitment to producing work-ready graduates prepared for the global technology landscape.
