In recognition of the invaluable contributions of its non-teaching personnel, the University of Baguio, through the Human Resource Management Center (HRMC), successfully initiated and conducted the “Araw ng mga Manggagawa” celebration on May 18, 2026, at the Centennial Hall of the University of Baguio. The whole day event gathered all non-teaching employees in a meaningful celebration centered on appreciation, empowerment, and camaraderie. The event highlighted the essential role of non-teaching employees in shaping and sustaining the spirit and operations of the University.
Anchored on the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) theme, “Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas Sama-samang Mararating,” the activity highlighted the importance of recognizing workers who continuously contribute to the efficient operations and overall success of the University.
The program formally opened with a vibrant cultural performance by the University of Baguio Bibak Ubbun Kaafuan Dancers (UBBUK), showcasing the rich culture and talent within the UB community. This was followed by a warm welcome message from University President Dr. Javier Bautista, who set the tone for a meaningful and inspiring celebration dedicated to honoring the hardworking members of the institution and emphasized the importance of recognizing the efforts and contributions of the University’s non-teaching personnel.

Empowering Non-Teaching Employees
The event was divided into two parts. The morning session focused on employee empowerment through insightful discussions and inspirational talks. One of the guest speakers, Hon. Faustino Fongwan, Vice Mayor of Baguio City, underscored the dignity and value of all forms of work, emphasizing that “no job is irrelevant, no job is lesser.” His message resonated strongly with the participants as he acknowledged the behind-the-scenes efforts of non-teaching employees in maintaining effective services, supporting academic functions, and creating a conducive environment for students, faculty members, and fellow employees.
Adding further value to the session, Atty. Jennifer Aquino facilitated an engaging and interactive discussion centered on the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) theme: “Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas Sama-samang Mararating.” She discussed workers’ rights, workplace practices, and the importance of decent work. The session encouraged participants to reflect on their contributions not only as employees but also as individuals who play a vital role in nation-building and organizational growth.
Honoring the Unsung Heroes of the University
Beyond the seminar sessions, the event also fostered enjoyment and teamwork through interactive booth games and collaborative activities prepared by the HRMC. Participants actively engaged in various games designed to strengthen teamwork, participation, and workplace camaraderie. A stamp card system was also implemented to encourage active participation throughout the event. To further enliven the celebration, employees showcased their musical talents during the open mic segment, where participants performed songs individually and in groups. Overflowing coffee, refreshments, and breads were also provided throughout the day as part of the University’s gesture of appreciation for the employees’ hard work and dedication.
The HRMC shared that the initiative aimed to foster appreciation, inclusivity, and empowerment among non-teaching employees while promoting a healthy balance between work and enjoyment. The event also aligned with the University’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Through this celebration, the University of Baguio, through the Human Resource Management Center, expressed its deep appreciation for the unwavering dedication, hard work, and invaluable contributions of its non-teaching personnel. Behind every successful operation, organized office, smooth transaction, and quality student service lies the commitment and effort of these employees who continue to play an indispensable role in the University community.
