A Scout’s Dedication and Commitment: Honoring the BSP Principles

The distinction from the UBSHS Scouts captured the attention of the crowd, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the ideals of Scouting with their impeccable formation and well-coordinated movements. The Scouts’ participation in the parade reflected the readiness to face new challenges, take on greater responsibilities, and embody the values of Scouting that are instilled in every member of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Their synchronized steps, upbeat parade yells, and unwavering enthusiasm for the event showed their dedication to the core values of the Boy Scout Movement: duty to God, country, and others.

As the parade ended at the Baguio City Athletic Bowl, the program began with the singing of the National Anthem, a poignant reminder of the Scouts’ deep sense of patriotism and respect for the country. This was followed by the recitation of the Scout Oath and Law, which further emphasized the importance of the Scout Promise: to serve God, the country, and the community, while living a life grounded in integrity, honor, and service to others. The Oath and Law are foundational principles that guide every Boy Scout, providing a moral compass that helps shape the character of each Scout, fostering leadership, respect, and community-mindedness.

The Opening Remarks were delivered by the Scout Coordinator, who spoke passionately about the crucial role of Scouting in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Through the Scouting movement, young people develop not only their leadership skills but also their sense of responsibility towards their peers, their community, and the environment. The message was clear: Scouting is about more than just earning badges; it’s about becoming a better person and a more effective leader, someone who can contribute positively to society.

The Promise and Spirit of Preparedness, Resilience, and Selflessness

In support of this message, several school administrators expressed their continued commitment to the development of young leaders within their institutions. They emphasized how integral the Scouting program is in providing students with the opportunity to develop character, responsibility, and leadership skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. These words were a reminder of the importance of Scouting not just as a recreational activity but as a vehicle for personal and social growth.

The program concluded on a high note, as all Scouts and Scout officials blew their whistles in unison to officially declare the opening of Scouting Month. This symbolic gesture marked the beginning of another year of service and adventure for Scouts across the region. The UBSHS Scouts, through their active participation, demonstrated their dedication to living out the Scout Motto: “Laging Handa” (Always Ready). This motto, which serves as a guiding principle for all Scouts, reflects the spirit of preparedness, resilience, and selflessness that defines the Boy Scouts movement.
