Celebrating a triumphant ending to their three-year drought, the University of Baguio Voices Chorale (UBVC) resecured its spot in the world of choral by placing third at the 2023 Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival (AOVICF).

The 2023 AOVICF comprised of various competitions such as the Folk Song Category, Equal Voices Category, and Mixed Voices Category. Participants were also enjoined to participated in exclusive concerts and masterclasses featuring renowned experts and figures in choral music.

The three categories were adjudicated by international experts namely, Mr. Janis Ozols of Latvia; Ms. Zimfira Poloz of Canada; Mr. Christo Burger of South Africa; Ms. Virginia Bono of Argentina; and, artistic director and conductor of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Mr. Mark Anthony Carpio. The winners were announced and led by AOVICF Festival Director Joey Vargas.

Composed of 40 dedicated members, UBVC unstintingly fought their way to the top as they competed in the Folk Song Category, against 10 internationally-renowned choirs namely:

  • The Archangel’s Journey Chorale
  • De La Salle University Chorale
  • Oroquieta Chamber Singers
  • Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo Chorale
  • Silay City Chorale
  • Tarlac Männerchor
  • University of Southeastern Philippines Harmonia Polifonica Chorale

Whereas, the Philippine Vocal Ensemble placed second, and the Los Cantantes de Manila were hailed as the champion.

UBVC was awarded with a prestigious Gold Diploma, certificate, plaque, and cash prize.

The 2023 AOVICF was presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. The choral festival was held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati City from July 20-23, 2023.
