August 28, 2024 — Every University of Baguio story is an opportunity to inform, inspire, and connect. From campus activities and community engagements to milestones and achievements, how these stories are written and presented helps shape how the University is seen by its community and audiences beyond campus.
To strengthen this role among its personnel, the Linkages Office facilitated the WORD Seminar Year 2, a training activity designed to refine UB personnel’s article-writing skills for the University website. The seminar gathered 22 UB personnel on-site and 61 online participants at the Alumni-AVR for a practical discussion on writing clear, engaging, and purposeful university stories.
The training underscored that writing for the University goes beyond simply recording what happened. University articles document institutional activities and accomplishments, support the University’s applications for local and international opportunities, and help communicate the people and initiatives that contribute to the UB community.
Leading the session were Mr. Gabriel Madriaga, UB Marketing and Promotions Associate, and Ms. Thea Sherina Rillera, University Publicist. They guided participants through the essentials of writing for the University’s digital platforms, emphasizing the creation of stories that are informative while remaining accessible and engaging to readers.

Participants were also introduced to the importance of pairing strong storytelling with purposeful visuals. Examples of group, venue, in-action, and subject photographs, as well as graphics, were presented to show how images can provide context, capture attention, and complement an article’s message.
Digital storytelling was another key focus of the seminar. Mr. Madriaga presented examples of online content, including a case involving a multinational companies Write-up appeal, illustrating how written content and visual elements can work together to communicate information effectively in a digital environment.
Throughout the training, participants were reminded to approach every article with the reader in mind. Before putting words on a page, writers must consider the story’s purpose, audience, structure, supporting visuals, and overall presentation.
More than a writing exercise, the seminar highlighted the responsibility that comes with telling the University’s stories.
Every UB activity has people behind it, a purpose that drives it, and an impact worth sharing. Through thoughtful writing and intentional use of visuals, these moments can become stories that document the University’s continuing journey and allow its community to see, appreciate, and celebrate the work happening across campus.
With strengthened article-writing skills, UB personnel are better equipped to turn university activities into stories that inform, engage, and represent the University of Baguio with clarity and purpose.
