University of Baguio Accredits 15 Off-Campus Housing Facilities for Academic Year 2026-2027

UB Accredits Off-Campus Housing Facilities for AY 2026-2027

Conducted and led by the university’s Office of Student Affairs (OSA), in collaboration with the Risk Management Office (RMO). The University of Baguio successfully concluded its Off-Campus Student Housing and Residential Services Accreditation Program for Academic Year 2026–2027. Showing commitment and reassuring incoming and existing students with safe, secure, and quality living environments beyond the campus.

The annual accreditation program, based on the provisions of CHED Memorandum Order No. 9, Series of 2013, or the Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services, ensures that off-campus dormitories and boarding houses recommended to UB students meet institutional standards for safety, sanitation, security, and student welfare. The process formally began when members and designated staff from the university’s OSA and RMO departments were previously invited to the accredited housing establishments to re-accredit. In response, dormitory owners and administrators took part in a comprehensive examination undertaken jointly by the respective project heads from both units.

Over a three-day inspection period, thirty (30) student housing facilities found in Bakakeng, Marcos Highway, New Lucban, Bonifacio, General Luna, and surrounding neighborhoods were thoroughly evaluated utilizing the university’s Student Housing Accreditation Evaluation Tool. The inspections looked at seventeen (17) important criteria, including room occupancy standards, ventilation, study facilities, sanitation, water supply, electrical safety, fire protection systems, emergency exits, waste management, security measures, house rules, and the overall condition of the facilities.

Beyond the physical inspection, evaluators also conducted interviews with property owners, managers, and administrators to validate operational policies, emergency preparedness, maintenance practices, and student support services. Documentary requirements—including valid business permits, fire safety inspection certificates, authorization letters, photographs of the facilities, and official establishment information—were likewise reviewed and submitted to the Linkages Office to ensure compliance with university and regulatory standards.

Finally, a formal end to the accreditation cycle was established by visiting each accredited establishment to facilitate the signing of the Memoranda of Agreement and personally awarding the Certificates of Accreditation and appreciation tokens to the participating housing partners. This accreditation formally recognized the establishments as University of Baguio-Accredited Student Housing Facilities for the following academic year.

Together, these establishments provide students dependable housing options that fulfill the university’s safety, security, cleanliness, and quality of life standards. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the accreditation process, the Office of Student Affairs proposed an online pre-registration and documentary submission mechanism for future candidates. The suggested digital platform would streamline the screening process, increase collaboration with housing providers, and allow evaluators to prioritize enterprises that have already completed the necessary documents before conducting onsite inspections.

Supporting the initiatives found under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the University likewise aims to expand its network of accredited student housing facilities in the coming years to provide students with greater access to quality accommodations across Baguio City
