UB innovates with Murata and Erovoutika on 4th Robolution

The University of Baguio, in partnership with Erovoutika, was the proud host of the 4th Robolution: a gathering of innovators looking to change the landscape of automation and artificial intelligence. Held at the FGB Hall, the event was a brilliant opportunity for young minds to hone their skills and collaborate with fellow students from other universities.

Now in its fourth year, Robolution has become a platform for knowledge-based competitions such as quiz bees and presentations and practical, skill-based competitions like the Erebot and Mobile Controlled categories that foster creativity and technical expertise among young innovators.

Strengthening partnerships with industry

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UB and the Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc. (PMM). Murata is a steadfast support not just of Robolution, but in electronics innovation as a whole. They continue to support the electronics industry through manufacturing and production, upholding a goal of ensuring that the field is constantly changing and evolving to meet the needs and demands of the present and future.

This partnership aims to target the key areas of immersion and training opportunities, research and development, and the implementation of outreach programs. Through this collaborative relationship, the university aims to bring more opportunities for technical and professional growth not just to its students but to its faculty as well, ensuring that the School of Information Technology (SIT) can keep up with the accelerated growth of the electronics industry.

Apart from immersion and training opportunities, the partnership also seeks to organize recruitment activities, job placements, and career programs for the students, allowing them the opportunity to be able to quickly transition into the workforce after they graduate.

This collaboration reflects the university’s commitment to preparing students for a technology-driven future, paving the way for a new generation of globally competitive professionals who can navigate the international industry with ease.

Collaborative endeavors like these bolster the university’s efforts to attain the different Sustainable Development Goals, mainly:

  • Goal no. 17: Partnerships for the Goials — By fostering relationships with external institutions and industry leaders such as Murata, UB continues to build a network of allies and resources that can help it hone its best practices in education and career growth,
  • Goal no. 4: Quality Education — Hosting events such as Robolution and building educational opportunities with partner companies like Murata allows UB to expand the scope of its academic programs, making learning opportunities more accessible and ensuring that they are up to the ever-evolving standards of the global industries that the students will be working with,
  • Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure — Activities such as these foster creativity and advances robotics education, building a stronger academic industry partnership that pushes the boundaries of technology and IT education, and
  • Goal no. 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth — This partnership in particular will serve to create pathways for training, research, and career opportunities, equipping both the students and the faculty with the skills experiences needed to keep up with the fast-paced information technology and robotics industry.

The 4th Robolution was not only a celebration of innovation and skill; it served to reinforce UB’s role as a hub of science, technology, and collaboration. With strengthened partnerships for a growing community of innovators, the event underscored UB’s mission to empower students through transformative learning experiences and real-world industry exposure.
