The University of Baguio Chamber Orchestra (UBCO) recently rocked the stage with their highly anticipated concert, “Beatles Plus,” a celebration of their 15th anniversary, an inclusion of Beatles classics alongside modern hits from different years, blending timeless melodies with contemporary flair. This remarkable event was their second Beatles-themed concert headed by their adviser Mr. Nelson Polvoriza, following the unforgettable “Strictly Beatles” held five years ago in 2020, which marked their 10th year as an ensemble.

The concert was attended by a diverse audience, including family members, friends, visitors, and esteemed guests such as Ma’am Divina Bautista and sir JB Bautista, along with their families. With every note played and every melody performed, “Beatles Plus”  was more than just a concert- it was a testament to the orchestra’s journey, growth, and unwavering passion for music.

During the “Beatles Plus” concert, a notable highlight was the participation of esteemed alumni members, including Tenor Emmanuel Aller, Lead Guitarist Enrick Kismod, and flutists Lyndel Rina and Venus Esquejo. Their involvement not only added depth and richness to the performance but also served as a powerful inspiration to the current group members. The alumni’s presence underscored the importance of unity and continuity between past and present generations, demonstrating how shared experiences and collective passion can transcend time.

This collaboration showcased the enduring spirit of collaboration and mutual support that defines the group’s ethics, highlighting the value of alumni involvement in fostering a sense of community and legacy.

A Journey Rooted in Passion and Vision

The story of the University of Baguio Chamber Orchestra began in 2010, thanks to the vision and initiative of then-president Mr. Johann Ben “JB” Bautista. A passionate advocate for music education. Mr Bautista not only spearheaded the creation of UBCO but also pioneered the first Bachelor of Arts in Music program in Northern Luzon. What started as a small group of dedicated musicians has blossomed into a thriving ensemble of 50 members today, encompassing a full orchestra, rondalla, and guitar ensemble.

From its humble beginnings, the UBCO has grown into a family- a family bound by shared dreams and a love for music. Over the years, this group has become more than just an orchestra; it has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for students from all walks of life. For many members, joining UBCO was not just about honing their talents- it was about finding a home where they could thrive academically, artistically, and personally

Transforming Lives Through Music

The impact of the University of Baguio Chamber Orchestra extends far beyond the stage. It has been a lifeline for countless students and their families, providing opportunities that have changed lives. Many former members have gone to achieve great things- not only as musicians but as professionals in various fields. Some have graduated with laude distinctions, carrying with them not just academic excellence but also the discipline and resilience they cultivated during their time with the orchestra.

The success stories of UBCO alumni are a source of pride for the entire university community. These graduates stand as living proof that music is not just an art form- it is a force that shapes character, builds confidence, and inspires greatness.

A Heartfelt Thank You

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the University of Baguio. To the university administration, faculty, staff, and everyone who has stood behind UBCO throughout its journey-thank you. Your belief in the power of music and your commitment to nurturing young talent have made all the difference. You have given us students not just an education but a platform to dream big and achieve even bigger.

As “Beatles Plusdrew to a close with thunderous applause and standing ovations, it became clear that this concert was more than just a celebration of music-it was a celebration of community, perseverance and gratitude. We, The University of Baguio Chamber Orchestra look forward to many many more years of creating beautiful music together and touching lives one note at a time
