University of Baguio (UB) welcomed its third batch of exchange students from Khon Kaen University – College of Local Administration (KKU-COLA) on November 19, 2024. Seven senior students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPS) program arrived ready to embark on a four-month exchange program filled with academic pursuits and cultural exploration.
The students’ arrival kicked off with a packed schedule of activities designed to introduce them to UB and the local community.
On November 19, the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) hosted the KKMUSTA COLA-STELA Convergence, a two-day event led by Professor Beverly Laltoog. The program aimed to familiarize the students with UB’s campus, services, and Filipino culture. Activities included interactions with local students, office tours, cultural immersion sessions, and basic Filipino language lessons.
Their schedule continued on November 20 with active participation in the 2024 UB International Education and Internship Fair. The exchange students set up a booth to promote Khon Kaen University, distributing informational materials about its programs and opportunities for international collaboration.
The next day, November 21, they were officially welcomed by UB President Engr. Javier Herminio D. Bautista and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan during a courtesy call. The students also completed their enrollment process, received their student IDs, attended a campus orientation, and toured UB’s facilities. Local student buddies accompanied them on a tour of nearby landmarks, including parks, the city market, and grocery stores, to help them settle into their new environment.
On November 22, the students participated in UB’s annual G.I.F.T.S. (Gives Inspiration, Fellowship, and True Service) program. They facilitated games and activities for elementary school beneficiaries at the event, showcasing UB’s dedication to community service and student engagement.
During their stay, the students will participate in numerous academic and cultural activities. An internship component, scheduled to begin in January 2025, will further enhance their practical learning experience. STELA has also planned various events to enrich students’ understanding of the Cordilleran culture and strengthen ties with local organizations and peers.
As the KKU-COLA students settle into their new roles as part of the UB community, their journey marks yet another chapter in UB’s mission to provide transformative and globally relevant education. Over the years, the partnership between UB and KKU-COLA has created opportunities for students and faculty to engage in meaningful cultural and academic exchanges.
