UB’s 2026 PRIME and SUMMIT Sessions Advance in Outcomes-Based Education and Institutional Alignment

Educational and Institutional Alignment: UB's 2026 PRIME

As the University of Baguio continues to push the envelope for collaborative academic engagement aimed at advancing outcomes-based education, the second-day session under the Professional Reinforcement for Innovation and Mentorship in Education (PRIME) and the Management Development Program–Strategic University Management for Mobilizing Institutional Transformation (MDP–SUMMIT) promised leaders, management members, and academic leads a strong curriculum alignment that reinforces strategic institutional transformation initiatives.

On May 26, 2026, at FGB Hall, University Grounds, a total of 43 participants attended the activity, including the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), Dr. Janice Kaylyn K. Lonogan; school/department deans; program chairs; subject heads; and the Quality Assurance Office (QAO) Director, Ms. Kareen De Leon. Serving as a platform for academic leaders to promote excellence in instructional delivery, curriculum development, and institutional governance.

A notable feature of the skill attainment and tenure sharing session was the thorough workshop on Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), Year Level Competencies (YLCs), and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) alignment.

Transformative Education and Organizational Alignment

Participating leaders engaged in curriculum review exercises and collaborative discussions that aimed to improve the alignment among institutional directives through PEOs, POs, and CLOs. The session reinforced outcomes-based education principles by emphasizing curricular coherence, constructive alignment, and effective assessment procedures that promote student learning and program achievement.

The talk and collaborative event were preceded by the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) dean and seasoned Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) accreditor, Dr. Charesma Grace K. Lud-ayen. The presentation detailed the assessment process in detail, from planning to instrument development and validation, assessment implementation, narrative reporting, and using outcomes for curriculum review and continuous improvement.

Ensuring that instructional delivery, assessment processes, and curriculum design remain aligned with institutional goals and graduate competencies, special focus was placed on constructive alignment, backward design, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and the methodical mapping of CLOs to program outcomes.

Through curriculum mapping and alignment exercises, participating members from the university’s academic and management departments critically examined course structures, learning outcomes, and assessment practices to ensure consistency between institutional goals, program objectives, and instructional delivery. The session also provided a distinct avenue for the professionals to exchange best practices and identify opportunities for curriculum enhancement and continuous improvement.

Highlighting UB’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the event portrayed practices like:

SDG 4: Quality Education – promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education through outcomes-based learning and continuous curriculum improvement

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – strengthening graduate competencies, employability, and future-ready skills aligned with industry and societal needs

The PRIME program reinforced the institution’s commitment to academic quality, curriculum enhancement, and strategic institutional transformation while providing participants with meaningful opportunities to strengthen outcomes-based education practices and support the institution’s vision of delivering transformative and future-ready education.
