Grace Duenas and Ireneo Matic, the former a faculty member of the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) and the latter, a non-teaching personnel of the University of Baguio played a vital role in advancing the University of Baguio’s research dedication by presenting their work at the prestigious IAFOR International Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 6, 2024. Their research delved into the University of Baguio’s community services through the Adopt-a-school program, emphasizing the crucial role of community engagement in the learning process. Drawing from the Theory of Student Engagement and Jean Piaget’s developmental psychology, their study underscored the importance of these services for educational institutions and recommended increased involvement from stakeholders to further improve them.

Following the presentation, Miss Duenas actively interacted with the audience, fielding questions about the University of Baguio’s Extension and Community Outreach Programs and how school adoptions are carried out. Participants, researchers, and observers gained insight into the University’s policies on partnership, collaboration, and sustainability with its partner schools, aligning with the institution’s goal of advocating for sustainable community and environmental programs.

Throughout the conference, Miss Duenas not only shared their research findings but also embraced the diverse participation that allowed the former to engage in enriching discussions spanning different nations and cultures. This experience provided her with valuable insights and learnings from a broad spectrum of experiences and perspectives.
