A Smoke-Free School Zone: UB Cracks Down on Smoking and Vaping

In service of creating a university campus that supports the health and well-being of its students, the University of Baguio has released a memorandum reiterating the prohibition of smoking, vaping, and the use of electronic cigarettes on campus.

The memorandum is in strict compliance with Baguio City Council Resolution No. 257, Series of 2023, which prohibits the use of E-Cigarettes on school premises. The notice also details revisions in the university policy regarding the following:

  • Smoking, Vaping, and the Use of Electronic Cigarettes
    • First Instance: confiscation of Paraphernalia and Suspension for 5 Days
    • Second Instance: Confiscation of Paraphernalia and Exclusion
  • Possession of Paraphernalia within and upon entry of University Premises
    • First Instance: Confiscation of Paraphernalia and Suspension for 3 days
    • Second Instance: Confiscation of Paraphernalia and Suspension for 5 Days
    • Third Instance: Confiscation of Paraphernalia and Exclusion
  • Selling of Smoking/Vaping Paraphernalia Within University Premises
    • First Instance: Confiscation of Paraphernalia and Exclusion

The anti-smoking and vaping policy applies to the entirety of the UB campus, including the car parks and immediate surroundings of all the buildings of the university. 

Items captured by security personnel and UB employees are considered contraband. As such, all confiscated contraband shall be turned over to the Security Office, where they will either be surrendered to the proper authority in the City or scheduled for disposal or destruction.

All students and employees are obligated to abide by the rules of the institution in the interest of maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone on campus.
