The UB-School of Engineering and Architecture attended an event hosted by its partner, Megawide, to celebrate its first batch of academic scholars.

Maintaining connections is more than just a way to ensure quality education. At the University of Baguio, partnerships are a way for the university to provide boundless opportunities to its students, opening pathways towards a brighter future through invaluable programs such as scholarships and educational exchange.
Earlier this year, the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) officially secured a partnership with Megawide Construction Corporation through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on campus grounds. The partnership is geared towards promoting meaningful initiatives and programs that promote industry-academe collaboration, provide training engagements and career opportunities for students and alumni, and push for innovation within the community.
UB and Megawide take the first big step
Following the establishment of this partnership, both institutions immediately sprang into action: three architecture students and three civil engineering students were chosen to be a part of the pioneering batch of scholars to be supported by the partnership. To commemorate the occasion, UB and its scholars, accompanied by faculty and staff, were invited to the “Salu-Salo para sa Scholars” event by Megawide on July 27, 2026. The delegates included six students and their parents, SEA Dean Ar. Ryan Benaoe, Program Chairs Ar. Divina Ligaya Benigno-Rillera (Architecture) and Engr. Maria Clarissa Joy Ordoño (Civil Engineering), and SEA Secretary Ms. Regine Jatulan.
Taken from the Filipino word salu-salo, meaning a gathering for eating, the event was a celebration that gathered together the different partners of Megawide from different universities. Apart from UB, there were also delegates from UC and SLU, strengthening the cross-academe connections between the different higher education institutions within Baguio.
This event marks a significant step forward in the University of Baguio’s journey towards making excellent higher education accessible to the entire community. It’s also indicative of UB’s ongoing pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
- Goal No. 4: Quality Education, through the provision of scholarships that make education attainable to every student;
- Goal No. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by enhancing connections between the institution and corporations like Megawide that can bridge the gap between what the community needs and what the academe can teach the students to specialize in, and
- Goal No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals, in its strengthening of the ties between UB and an external partner, in this case Megawide, which in turn allows it to pursue the other goals.
