The University of Baguio (UB) conducted the ISO 21001:2025 Foundation Course and ISO 19011:2026 Internal Auditors’ Course on July 29, 2026, as part of the University’s proactive preparations for its ISO 21001:2018 transition to ISO 21001:2025.
The activity was organized by the Educational Organization Management Representative (EOMR) and Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Janice Kaylyn K. Lonogan, with the Quality Assurance Office (QAO) team. The goals were to strengthen institutional awareness, audit readiness, and employee engagement in changes and in sustaining the University’s Educational Organization Management System (EOMS). It also reaffirmed UB’s continuing commitment to quality assurance, institutional compliance, continuous improvement, and the effective delivery of educational services anchored on international standards.
The speaker for both morning and afternoon sessions was Mr. Arnold Z. David, an experienced quality management professional who has devoted many years to helping organizations establish, implement, and continually improve their management systems through internationally recognized ISO standards. His expertise covers ISO management systems, internal auditing, organizational development, and quality assurance, making him one of the respected trainers in the field of ISO implementation and auditing.
The morning session, focused on the ISO 21001:2025 Awareness Course, was for all University employees. The session provided participants with an understanding of the revised standard and its relevance to the University’s quality management practices, educational service delivery, and institutional improvement initiatives.
The ISO 19011:2026 Internal Auditors’ Course was then conducted from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The participants included all the University’s Internal Auditors and Management members, who were further oriented on audit principles, audit planning, audit implementation, reporting, and continual improvement processes.
The activity was also significant in helping ensure that the University would maintain a valid ISO certification. Through the training, employees gained a clearer understanding of the requirements of ISO 21001:2025, while Internal Auditors and Management members enhanced their competencies in supporting effective internal audit practices and quality assurance mechanisms.
The activity was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, as it contributed to the strengthening of institutional quality assurance systems that support effective and responsive educational services. It was also aligned with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, as the training promoted accountability, transparency, and effective governance through internal auditing and compliance processes. And, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Through this initiative, UB reinforced its culture of quality, accountability, and sustainability. The training served as a strategic step toward institutional readiness for any transition, strengthened audit competence, and continued compliance with international quality standards for educational organizations.
