Counseling for a Changing World: CCSD at PGCA 61st Annual National and 2026 International Conference

The Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) successfully convened its 61st Annual National and 2026 International Conference last May 20 to 22, 2026, at Novotel Manila–Araneta Cubao and St. Bridget School, Quezon City. Anchored on the theme, “The Global Helping Professional: Images. Realities. Aspirations,” the conference gathered guidance counselors, mental health practitioners, educators, and allied professionals from across the country to examine the evolving role of helping professionals in an increasingly interconnected world.

Representing the University of Baguio – Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD), Guidance Associate Lara Joi G. Ilumin, RPm participated in the three-day conference which highlighted the growing responsibility of helping professionals in addressing the complex needs of students and communities. During the plenary sessions, the speakers emphasized the importance of innovation, inclusivity, and responsiveness in counseling services, particularly within educational institutions. The conference also showcased current developments in school-based mental health programs, the integration of technology in counseling services, and evidence-based practices that strengthen student support systems. 

On the second and third day, the participants attended specialized workshops aimed at strengthening professional competencies in guidance and counseling. Through interactive learning sessions, case discussions, and skills-based activities, attendees explored contemporary counseling approaches, innovative intervention strategies, and best practices for supporting diverse student populations. 

The knowledge and competencies gained from the conference are expected to further strengthen the University’s guidance and counseling programs, ensuring responsive and holistic support for students. As educational and mental health landscapes continue to evolve, the University of Baguio remains committed to developing globally competent helping professionals who champion student well-being, inclusivity, and resilience in an ever-changing world.
