On April 8, 2026, departmental staff members and non-teaching representatives from the University of Baguio took a big step to continuously develop and refine satisfactory service on their professional journey, as dedicated leaders brought a hands-on coaching session designed to help achieve satisfactory results and commendations toward the upcoming NC II Customer Service and NC III Events Management assessments.
Part of the qualification and assessment models proposed and handled by the Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) program in the Philippines, the competencies required to undertake the process of presenting goods and services to clients and helping them purchase in a variety of retail shop settings make up the Customer Services NC-II Qualification, while the Events Management NC III Qualification gives professionals the necessary tools needed to organize, manage, and carry out events, including conferences, meetings, and exhibitions. The program prepares students for jobs in hotels, resorts, and tourism by covering event planning, venue selection, and on-site management.
The Art of Great Service (NC II)
The goal was simple for the leaders and members of the institution; to give interested participants the mental and technical guidance, practice, and confidence that are needed to take their exams and pass with flying colors.
As the morning session proceeded, the TESDA Assessor and an esteemed faculty member from the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM), Ms. Jennifer Sese, opened with an open exploration and discussion on how true service goes beyond mere politeness. Giving participants a chance to navigate their roles as professionals in simple, complex, to specific situations, and being to handle with grace and expertise. The metrics and key points of the discussion included:
- Active Listening & Empathy: Understanding the core needs of a guest, even during moments of frustration
- Professionalism: Maintaining composure and clarity under high-pressure scenarios
- Assessment Insights: Learning exactly what assessors look for to ensure a seamless performance on exam day

More Than Just a Certificate
Expressed through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4, 8, 10, 11, and 16, the coaching session gave the participants more than just text book insights, rather a profound sense in creating a unified approach driven and led for professional and personal development through excellent service. Investing in these abilities fosters a sense of accomplishment that translates to academic and organizational tenure. As UB’s representing team members have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities to enhance confidence both at work and in daily living.
This coaching wasn’t just about passing a test; it was about growth.
By way of earning the credited national certificates, staff members and representatives aren’t just getting a piece of paper, instead, they gain notable commendations and beneficial knowledge that is recognized across the country . Passing these assessments also count toward promotion points, helping them move up the career ladder and get the recognition they deserve for their hard work.
In skills building, opportunities such as these prove to that the institution is more than willing to let their members be more than just what they’re deemed to be capable of. As everyone walked away with a clearer plan and the motivation to keep practicing, UB cheers and roots for all our participants as they head toward their official assessments! Good luck, UBians!
