Written by Jenel Mae Baniaga (CCSD, Staff)

The UBLES Annual Leadership Training Seminar 2025, led by the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) Office in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and UB Supreme Student Council (UB SSC), was held last September 8, 2025 at the UBLES Quadrangle with the theme “UBian Leaders: Leading with Respect, Action, and Purpose.” A total of 71 of 75 student leaders (95%) joined the Leadership Training Seminar activity, which was designed to cultivate essential leadership skills among young learners, helping them promote inclusivity, practice effective communication, and embrace the values of kindness, discipline, and responsibility

Two distinguished student leaders from the University of Baguio Supreme Student Council served as guest speakers:  Ms. Joi Mari Angelique Mina (UB SSC Secretary for External Affairs), who discussed leadership grounded in resilience and purpose, and Ms. Mary Jane Pilawen (UB SSC Secretary for Internal Affairs), who talked about communication as the core of effective leadership.

Ms. Mina opened the discussion by revisiting the UBian Attributes and connecting them to real-life leadership experiences. She highlighted the importance of resilience and learning from mistakes, grasping it as an opportunity to become stronger, braver, and more purposeful as a leader. Ms. Pilawen followed with an engaging session on effective communication—a skill central to teamwork, friendship, and problem-solving. Key communication practices such as active listening, speaking confidently, and using positive body language were discussed, emphasizing their role in becoming reflective and service-oriented leaders.

With the success of this year’s seminar, UBLES reaffirms its commitment to developing well-rounded leaders who embody respect, action, and purpose—leaders who are ready to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
