UB Athletes Secure Third Overall in PRISAA 2024 Senior Division

The University of Baguio Athletics Office (ATH) proved victorious at the recently concluded National Private Schools Athletic Association 2024 (PRISAA 2024) held at Legazpi City, Albay. The event, which took place from July 17 to 27, 2024, is a competition that allows athletes from different private schools across the country to showcase their talents and skills at a national level. A total of ten thousand (10,000) delegates from various universities all over the Philippines participated in the competition. UB, alongside the University of the Cordilleras (UC), Baguio College of Technology (BCT), and Baguio Central University (BCU), were the representatives of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

A total of ninety-six (96) medals were awarded to the university’s athletes; thirty-two (32) gold medals, twenty-two (22) silver medals, and forty-two (42) bronze medals.

The Archery event produced the most medals, with fifteen (15) gold, five (5) silver, and five (5) bronze medals for a total of twenty-five (25) medals. The Athletics event also raked in an impressive eighteen (18) medals, with four (4) gold, seven (7) silver, and seven (7) bronze medals. The Swimming event follows closely behind, with four (4) gold, four (4) silver, and nine (9) bronze medals, for a total of seventeen (17) medals.

The Taekwondo event yielded thirteen (13) medals, with a breakdown of seven (7) gold, two (2) silver, and four bronze (4) medals in total. The Badminton event yielded six (6) bronze medals, while the Boxing Women’s event yielded a total of two (2) gold medals. The Boxing Men’s event resulted in three (3) silver medals and two (2) bronze medals, and the Lawn Tennis event yielded one (1) silver medal and four (4) bronze medals, with both events having a total of five (5) medals each. The Chess event also yielded five (5) bronze medals.

The Beach Volleyball Men’s category earned the distinction of being in 4th place, while the Archery Team emerged as the Overall Champion for both the Men and Women’s Divisions for the second time in a row. The Boxing team also ranked as the Overall Champion in the Women’s Division. 

The Taekwondo team was awarded the title of Overall Champion, with Ms. Lei Ramon being recognized as the Best Player for the Senior Women Division and Coach Arnold Oglayon being awarded the title of Best Coach in the event.

This year’s PRISAA Games was a triumphant success. It gave the university’s athletes the platform to showcase their skill and prowess on a national level, cultivating sportsmanship and camaraderie and honing their tenacity and determination for victory. The dedication and hard work of both the athletes and their coaches were evident in every event, embodying the university’s pursuit of excellence in brilliant form.
