The Commission of Higher Education-Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR) continues its pursuit to carve its niche as an Educational Center in the North through the guidance provided to the different higher education institutions in their path towards international recognition. As a follow-through of the facilitated Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputations (FLAIR) Masterclass last June 2022, the Kuminwani Masterclass 2.0 was conducted last August 2 to 4, 2023 at the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC). The activity aimed to look into the strengths and weaknesses of the HEIs relative to the previous international rankings: QS, THE Impact and WURI.

In support of the endeavor, the University of Baguio sent members of the management team as representatives to the 40 hour training: 16 hours completion of assigned tasks and 24 hours face-to-face sessions. The sessions were loaded with various strategies  which sought to enable the represented HEIs to identify the tasks to be carried out to sustain, if not achieve greater international recognition. Day 1 sessions focused on process and methodology for THE Impact Ranking and QS Ranking which was all the more enriched by the sharing of personal experiences from Saint Louis University.

Day 2 topics were on WURI ranking; zooming in on research, research citations and the sharing  of experiences relative to school application for international rankings. The final day gave way for a topic on internationalization and the sharing of the identified pathway towards international recognition of each participating HEI. To cap off the event, the participants were given points to reflect on as they go back to their respective institutions: cordillera culture relative to education; educational excellence and indigenization of internationalization.

Putting into action all the learnings, challenges and realizations obtained, the university is resolute to move further FORWARD by participating in the following international rankings: QS ranking, THE Impact Ranking and WURI. The continuous preparation for the international recognitions has been initiated through the collaboration of the schools and offices and the continuing steps will press on with the support and guidance of the key officials of the university.
