The Human Resource Center of the University of Baguio recently conducted a Management Development Program (MDP) entitled “Drive Manager Effectiveness to Shape a High-Performing Educational Team: The UB Experience” last April 26, 2023, at the Centennial Hall. The MDP aimed to equip the management team, assistant principals, and program chairs with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective leaders and prepare the next generation of leaders of the university.

The morning session of the seminar was composed of two speakers who presented on Visionary Leadership and an Overview of Performance Management. Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista, the University President, presented the topic of Visionary Leadership, where he emphasized the importance of being a visionary leader in the educational setting. On the other hand, Ms. Melanie Rulla Saro, the Linkages Director, presented an Overview of Performance Management. She discussed the different components of a performance management system and how to implement it effectively.
Moreover, after the morning session, the Quality Assurance Director of the University, Dr. Ellen Halover, presented the direction of the university by complying with the necessary documentation. She emphasized the importance of complying with the necessary documentation to maintain the quality of education that the university provides. She also announced that the annual review will be scheduled on June 14 and 15, 2023.
The MDP aimed to provide participants with a diverse set of skills to be successful in their managerial roles. It is essential for managers to play both administrative and leadership roles to ensure that their teams are performing well. They need to develop team members through positive and constructive feedback, set priorities, and motivate their team members. Additionally, managers must have a solid understanding of financial management to ensure that the company’s investments earn a good return.
The Management Development Program conducted by the Human Resource Center of the University of Baguio was a success. The seminar provided valuable insights on how to become effective leaders and equip the management team, assistant principals, and program chairs with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead their respective teams. The program aimed to shape a high-performing educational team, and it was evident that the MDP was able to achieve this goal.
