The University of Baguio’s QS Stars Rating Journey and Focus on World-Class Excellence

Since the QS Stars coordination meeting, the University of Baguio continues to excel and reach world-class excellence and standards to empower professionals in a global community, being recognized internationally as one of the leading pioneers in higher education in the Philippines and the world.

Among its many efforts for accreditation, the university has been in the works and vying for the journey towards the Student Satisfaction Survey, Staff Satisfaction Survey, and Alumni Survey, and by 2026, the Top Universities QS Stars Ratings. The ranking system delivers a participatory evaluation model, gathering key areas for deliberation that include facilities, teaching styles/methods, research and innovation, employability, internationalization, and sustainability metrics.

Attaining a QS star ranking is a primary objective of the institution. Through the in-depth ranking system, necessary metrics are closely monitored and evaluated per institution’s program strength and implementation of said education and organizational techniques and practices. This ranking allows anyone to evaluate how adept the university is, how efficient it is, and how effective it is at educating, training, and hiring.

As UB aims to secure world-class rankings, the process and timeline include:

  1. The university is to send the invitation (see attached) for the Alumni Survey to all undergraduate and postgraduate students graduating in the last 5 years, and the invitation (see attached) for the Student Satisfaction Survey to all students who are in full-time or part-time learning (please exclude short course and distance or online learning students) and alumni from the last 3 years.
  2. The university is to send the invitation (see attached) for the Staff Satisfaction Survey to all current and former staff from the last 3 years working at the university.
  3. The university will have to give a 4-week deadline to the respondents. If enough responses are not received, the deadline can be extended by a further 2 weeks.
  4. All surveys should have a minimum of 1000 unique respondents or a 20% response rate. QS will share the response count on a case-by-case basis as and when the university would like to know the same upon email request.
  5. The QS surveys are available in English.

To reiterate, kindly take note of the requirements for the QS Alumni Survey, QS Student Satisfaction Survey, and QS Staff Satisfaction Survey as stated below:

  1. The QS Alumni Survey should have a minimum of 1000 unique respondents or 20% of graduates from the past five years to avoid scaling down of points. If the survey has fewer than 1000 unique respondents, please kindly provide the number of graduates from the past five years.
  2. The QS Student Satisfaction Survey should have a minimum of 1000 unique respondents or 20% of graduates from the past three years to avoid scaling down of points. If the survey has fewer than 1000 unique respondents, please also provide the number of alumni from the past three years.
  3. The QS Staff Satisfaction Survey should have a minimum of 1000 unique respondents or a 20% response rate of the total staff to avoid scaling down of points.
  4. All surveys remain open for four weeks initially, and an additional two weeks if the minimum response rate has not been met.
