On January 23 and 24, 2025, the University of Baguio (UB) held its much-anticipated 16th Leadership Summit at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in Baguio City. Guided by the theme of UB L.E.A.D.E.R.S. — Learn, Empower, Achieve, Develop, Engage, Reflect, and Succeed within and beyond UB — this event brought together emerging student leaders for two days of growth, learning, collaboration, and fun. Organized by the University of Baguio Office of Student Affairs (OSA) in collaboration with the UB Supreme Student Council (UBSSC), the summit proved to be a significant milestone in cultivating the next generation of impactful leaders.
The first day commenced with the participants assembling early at the University of Baguio, filled with excitement for the transformative experience ahead. The group then traveled to the scenic venue, where they were greeted by the crisp mountain air and a program designed to inspire and challenge them.
The day’s activities began with introductory group dynamics exercises. These warm-up activities were designed to break the ice, foster camaraderie, and encourage collaboration among the participants. The energy and engagement during these initial moments set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

The first major highlight of the day was the session led by Mr. Peter Ray Bautista, titled “Unlocking Leaders Within.” In his engaging talk, Mr. Bautista explored the often-overlooked potential that lies within each individual. He shared personal insights and strategies on how participants could discover and amplify their inner leadership voices. The session emphasized that leadership starts with self-awareness and is nurtured through reflection and confidence.
Following this inspiring session, participants shifted to a creative mode with the Poster-Making Activity. Divided into teams, the participants worked together to design posters that captured the essence of leadership, empowerment, and community impact. This activity not only allowed them to express their creativity but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and effective communication. Each poster was a visual testament to the participants’ shared vision for positive change.

Building on the themes of the second session, the participants moved into an interactive Workshop Session with the Speaker. This workshop provided practical tools and strategies for applying leadership principles in real-world situations. Through group discussions and activities, the participants deepened their understanding of mental wellness and how it could influence their leadership style.

The day continued with a brainstorming session on Community Impact Projects. Working in groups, the participants were tasked with identifying pressing social issues and crafting innovative solutions. The session encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork, with each group presenting a preliminary plan for initiatives that could bring meaningful change to their communities.

As the evening approached, the participants gathered for the third speaker session, led by Mr. Justin Patrick Samson, which focused on “Building Emotional Intelligence.” This session emphasized the importance of understanding and managing emotions in oneself and others as a critical leadership skill. Mr. Samson explored how emotional intelligence fosters stronger relationships, better decision-making, and the ability to inspire teams. Participants left this session with actionable insights on cultivating empathy, self-awareness, and interpersonal communication. The session set the tone for a reflective and growth-centered dinner.
Following dinner, the UB Supreme Student Council (UBSSC) led an Interactive Activity. This lively session involved games and exercises designed to promote teamwork, problem-solving, and, most importantly, fun. Laughter and energy filled the room, providing a perfect balance to the day’s more serious and reflective moments.
The first day concluded with a bonfire session, where participants gathered under the starlit sky. They shared stories, reflected on the day’s experiences, and strengthened their newfound connections. The warmth of the fire mirrored the camaraderie and unity that had grown among the participants, creating a memorable end to an impactful day.

The second day began with stretching exercises and group games, energizing the participants for another full day of learning and engagement. These activities, led by the event’s working committee, not only invigorated the group but also highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being in leadership. The group games further fostered teamwork and created a lively atmosphere that set a positive tone for the day.
The morning session featured the fourth speaker, Mr. CJ Amadeo, who delivered an inspiring talk on the theme “Leaders Are Builders.” Mr. Amadeo emphasized that leadership is about creating strong and lasting foundations, fostering growth, and leaving a positive legacy. He highlighted the importance of leaders as architects who build not only structures but also relationships, trust, and sustainable systems. Participants were inspired to see leadership as a lifelong journey of empowering others and making meaningful contributions to their communities. This session laid the groundwork for the subsequent presentations.

Following this, participants showcased their efforts during the Community Projects Presentation. Each group presented their community impact plans, showcasing innovative ideas and actionable strategies to address societal challenges. The presentations reflected the participants’ commitment to applying their leadership lessons in meaningful ways. Constructive feedback from mentors and peers helped refine the projects, ensuring their feasibility and sustainability.
After the presentations, the participants engaged in a Processing and Reflection Session. This activity provided a space for participants to revisit the lessons and experiences of the summit. They were encouraged to evaluate their growth, share personal insights, and set leadership goals for the future. The session underscored the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement as vital traits of effective leaders.
One of the key messages that resonated with the participants was the insight shared by UB Supreme Student Council President Cyber Laurels Domantay, who emphasized, “Leaders should be steadfast in the face of adversity.” This call for resilience and unwavering determination captured the essence of leadership as a journey that requires strength and perseverance, especially in challenging times.

Through its diverse activities, the 16th Leadership Summit offered participants opportunities not only for learning and growth but also for joy and connection. The combination of inspiring speaker sessions, creative exercises, collaborative workshops, and lighthearted games ensured a holistic experience that was as enriching as it was enjoyable.
The 16th Leadership Summit served as a powerful platform for aspiring leaders to cultivate their potential, connect with peers, and create meaningful plans for community impact. Guided by the principles of UB L.E.A.D.E.R.S., the event reaffirmed the University of Baguio’s commitment to nurturing leaders who are equipped to Learn, Empower, Achieve, Develop, Engage, Reflect, and Succeed both within and beyond the university community. As these young leaders return to their respective endeavors, they carry with them the lessons, memories, and inspiration to create a brighter future for all.
