RMO Holds Basic Incident Command Training for UB OSHCOM

The University of Baguio, Risk Management Office spearheaded by its Director Engr. Julia A. Flores, together with her associates, recently hosted a three-day Basic Incident Command System Training dated last April 15-17, 2024 at FGB Hall, University of Baguio. Members of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSHCOM) chaired by Engr. Bernard Z. Abaya, and selected participants of the school actively took the challenge of the ICS training. In coordination with the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region, who facilitated the training, it aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in effectively managing and responding to various incidents and emergencies.

The group was also delighted with the presence of the university VP for Administration, Atty. Rommel P. Ayson who delivered his opening remarks, inculcating to everyone the momentous impact and benefit of this training to the institution.

Throughout the training, participants were exposed to different scenarios and simulations that allowed them to practice applying the incident command system in a controlled environment. They learned about the key principles of the system, including establishing command structures, communication protocols, and resource management strategies. Particularly: Introduction to Incident Command System, Incident Organization and Staffing, Incident Command Facilities, Managing Planned Events and Incidents, Incident/Event Assessment and Management by Objectives, Organizing and Managing Resources, Incident and Event Planning, Transfer of Command, Demobilization and Closeout.

The training also emphasized the importance of coordination and collaboration among different agencies and stakeholders during emergency response efforts. Participants were encouraged to work together and communicate effectively to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to incidents.

By the end of the training, participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable knowledge and skills they gained. They felt more confident and prepared to handle emergencies and incidents within the university premises.

Overall, the three-day Basic Incident Command System Training was a success, thanks to the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region for their expertise and guidance. The University of Baguio is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students and staff and will continue to provide opportunities for training and development in emergency response and preparedness.
