Other Posts

The University of Baguio’s very own homegrown choir group, the UB Voices Chorale, once again put the exceptional skills of its members on full display at the recently concluded Taipei International Choral Competition. The competition was held from July 31 to August 2, 2024, and featured ten choir groups hailing from all over Asia, two of which were also Philippine-based. The competition was a gathering of brilliant singers from several selected countries, all of whom proved to be formidable opponents. Overcoming the challenge, the Voices Chorale still managed to prove their mettle and garner several accolades for their exceptional performances in the competition.

Of the different categories, the Chorale managed to gain accolades in two categories: the Gold Award for the Youth Choir Category (which they secured with a score of 89.81) and the Ethnic/Traditional Music Category (which they secured with a score of 92.98). They were also the Category Winner for the latter. The group was also a Grand Prix Finalist, being the 4th overall in standing.

Apart from their group awards, the Voices Chorale also netted the Outstanding Soloist award for Ms. Christy Joy May Basilan for the piece “Ili Ili Tulog Anay” (arranged by Ily Matthew Maniano). Her wonderful performance alongside her peers was recognized for its brilliance, resulting in a stunning victory.

UB is proud to congratulate the members of the Voices Chorale and their conductor Mr. John Glenn Gaerlan for their achievements at the Taipei International Choral Competition. Their steadfast dedication to perfecting their craft is an outstanding embodiment of the university’s pursuit of perfection and excellence. May the future hold more outstanding achievements for the group, and may the way forward be filled with more opportunities to shine and showcase your talents and skills!
