University of Baguio Teams Up With University of the Philippines Manila on Internationalization

The two Universities forged their partnership in 2021 purposely to develop academic networking, support cooperation and promote mutual understanding, particularly in Academic Programs in the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety of the University of Baguio and the Department of Behavioral Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences.

The rationale behind these collaborations is the promotion of the academic interest in both institutions of learning, especially promoting students’ efforts for holistic learning as well as faculty sharing knowledge and expertise and other relevant activities but not limited to training and seminars but may extend to other collaborative instructions.

This year, both Universities are working with other local and international partners to bring in the City of Pines, another International Forensic Science conference. The University of Baguio SCJPS is privileged to be working with experts in Behavioral Sciences, namely,

Leonardo R. Estacio Jr is a professor at the Department of Behavioral Sciences at the University of the Philippines Manila and currently dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He teaches Anthropology, Behavioural Sciences, and Health Policy courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of the Philippines Manila and his Master’s in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, USA. He has been a visiting scientist at the University of Washington and a recipient of the US government’s Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.

Apart from being awarded as an outstanding teacher by his College, he has also received the University of the Philippines Manila Chancellor’s Award for exemplary extension work (public service). His current research interests include studies on drug abuse and behavioral health among young populations, social health insurance benefit packages, community-managed health programs, delivery of health services to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, violence against children, online children, and sexual exploitation of children online, among others.

Ma. Teresa G. de Guzman currently serves as Associate Dean for Planning and Development at the College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines, Manila. She is also working as a consultant in cultural anthropology at Lichel Technologies. She also worked as department Chairperson at Behavioral Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines, Manila. She had enormous working experience as an Associate professor, instructor, and Senior lecturer. She has completed her Doctorate in Anthropology from the College of Social Science and Philosophy, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.

She has worked extensively with different Ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines, particularly Aeta, Mangyan, and the Manobo. She has been in academia for the past 10 years, complemented by 10 years of fieldwork. Her research interests and work mostly concentrate on Indigenous groups, Indigenous Knowledge (IK), Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment, Health and Social Impact Assessment, Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM), and others. Apart from this, she is also the current Executive Director of Applied Social Science Research and Development (CASSRDI), a non-profit research and development organization. Constant collaboration ensures we overcome the silo mentality and move towards cross-team bonding.
