The University of Baguio Risk Management Office successfully coordinated a 16-hour Occupational First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS)-CPR with AED training for the university’s management team on March 5-6, 2025. The training was facilitated by the Baguio City Red Cross team, ensuring that participants gained essential life-saving skills and emergency response knowledge.

The intensive two-day training covered crucial topics, including:
- Introduction to First Aid – Understanding the principles of first aid and its importance in workplace safety.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) & CPR with AED – Hands-on training on performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) in emergency situations.
- Emergency Action Principles – Learning how to assess, respond, and manage emergencies efficiently.
- Common Emergencies & Chain of Survival – Recognizing medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, choking, and severe injuries while ensuring quick and proper response.
- Special Situations – Addressing emergency care in specific scenarios such as workplace accidents, trauma, and environmental hazards.

Led by the University President Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista, the management team actively engaged in extensive hands-on exercises and return demonstrations, ensuring they mastered the proper techniques and protocols required in real-life emergencies. The training emphasized the importance of quick response, teamwork, and proper execution of first aid and life-saving techniques.

At the conclusion of the training, all members of the management team successfully passed the evaluation, officially becoming certified first-aiders. This initiative reinforces the University of Baguio’s commitment to workplace safety and preparedness, equipping its leadership team with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergencies.
By investing in Occupational First Aid and BLS-CPR training, the university ensures a safer environment for students, faculty, and staff, fostering a culture of safety, preparedness, and proactive emergency response.
