The University of Baguio was graced by the presence of the Consul and Head of Post, Hon. Ren Faqiang of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag, who stopped by for an on-campus visit during his trip to Baguio. Accompanied by former UB President Dr. Virgilio Bautista, Mr. Faqiang met with current President Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista at his office, where they had an engaging discussion centered around strengthening academic collaboration between UB and China as well as the Chinese community in Baguio.

UB has been building strong ties with Chinese schools and the Chinese community in Baguio for several years; it recently sent out twelve exchange students to its partner schools, Jining Polytechnic and Linyi University, for a cross-cultural educational program. The university also boasts a thriving Chinese community with about seventy-eight (78) students currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education program.

The visit also involved a brief tour of the university’s facilities, with the delegation paying a visit to several key locations such as the Dental Infirmary which is under the care of the School of Dentistry.

This visit highlighted UB’s dedication to maintaining community relationships, reiterating the importance of building stronger ties with not just the Chinese community, but with other local and international groups that can provide unique learning opportunities for the university’s student body.
