UB Helps Host this Year’s Montanosa Film Festival

The University of Baguio is proud to host the Montanosa Film Festival and looks forward to continuing its partnership with the festival in the years to come. The event is an excellent opportunity for students to learn and be inspired by the works of prominent personalities in the industry and to contribute to the development of the local film industry.

The University of Baguio (UB) recently hosted the Montanosa Film Festival for the second year in a row. The festival provided opportunities for students to learn about filmmaking through film viewing and talks with leading film personalities. The event also saw the launch of FILM camp at UB, with guest speakers including Nico Hernandez, Ditsi Carolino, and Jade Castro. The Montanosa Film Festival aims to promote local filmmakers and their works, while the FILM camp provides students with hands-on experience in the industry. UB is proud to continue its partnership with the festival in the coming years.

The University of Baguio (UB) hosted the Montanosa Film Festival on March 29, 2023, at the UB Centennial Hall. This year marks the second year of the university’s partnership with the festival, which aims to provide avenues for students to learn more about filmmaking through film viewing and talks with leading film personalities.

The festival also launched their FILM camp at the University of Baguio, which saw prominent personalities from the film-making industry as guest speakers. The lineup of speakers included Nico Hernandez, a film director and former Iwant Head for Creatives, who is now the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Content Production and Strategy group, Lucca Creatives. Hernandez shared his insights on the industry and the art of filmmaking.

Also present at the event was Ferdinand Balanag, Festival Director of the Montanosa Film Festival, who shared his experience in organizing film festivals and the importance of showcasing local films. Balanag emphasized the need to support and promote local filmmakers and their works.

Ditsi Carolino, a multi-awarded documentarist and director, also graced the event. Carolino shared her journey in documentary filmmaking and her advocacy for telling stories of marginalized communities through her films. She encouraged students to use filmmaking as a tool to raise awareness and advocate for social issues.

IBÔNMÅN, also known as Emmanuel Dela Cruz, a TV and film writer, creative producer, and director, was also among the speakers. Dela Cruz shared his experience in the industry and the challenges he faced as a creative professional. He encouraged students to pursue their passion and hone their craft, even in the face of adversity.

Jade Castro, a Filipino film director, screenwriter, and producer, completed the lineup of guest speakers. Castro is known for his multi-awarded film ‘Endo’, which he wrote and directed. He shared his insights on the process of filmmaking, from conceptualization to post-production, and the importance of storytelling in creating impactful films.

The Montanosa Film Festival, in partnership with the University of Baguio, aims to provide a platform for students to learn more about the art and craft of filmmaking from leading personalities in the industry. The FILM camp launched at the university provides students with hands-on experience and practical knowledge in filmmaking, which they can apply in their future careers in the industry.

The main objective of the Montanosa Film Festival is to support and showcase the works of local filmmakers, whereas the FILM camp offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of filmmaking.
