University of Baguio shares ISO 21001:2018 success with AboitizPower in Benchmarking Initiative

On the 29th of May 2025, the University of Baguio (UB) hosted a distinguished delegation from AboitizPower, one of the Philippines’ largest energy producers, for a significant benchmarking activity. Held at the Management Conference Room (MCR), the visit focused on AboitizPower’s objective of understanding UB’s successful journey in attaining ISO 21001:2018 certification as an educational organization.

The benchmarking session was spearheaded by Dr. Kareen B. Leon, Director of the Quality Assurance Office (QAO) at the University of Baguio. And was joined by key members of her team, including Mr. Kristian S. Corpuz, Review Staff; Mr. Justin Marcus Andrada, Document Controller/Full-Stack Developer; Ms. Nahdia O. Wallang, Ms. Katrine P. Dumling, and Ms. Kate Jamaica B. Nanao, all QAO Staff members; and Ms. Lenilyn P. Malicdem, Administrative Assistant.

Leading the AboitizPower delegation were Engr. Maria Bleshielda “Mayshelle” Rosario, Director of the Technical Academy; Ms. Cristine Paola “Brevs” Breva, Senior Manager of the Technical Academy; and Ms. Marial “Yal” Javier, Supervisor at the Technical Academy. Also joining the group was Mr. Hideaki Oana, Senior Supervisor of the O&M Engineering Strategy Division, representing JERA Co., Inc., a strategic partner of AboitizPower in advancing energy innovation and operational excellence.

AbiotizPower’s keen interest as an industry player in UB’s successful ISO 21001:2018 certification highlights its dedication to excellence and continuous improvement across all operational facets, including the development of the company’s human capital and research capabilities. Their mission to be a leading training ground for internships further solidifies their commitment to nurturing future talent in the energy sector.

The benchmarking visit also included a tour of the university, in particular the laboratories, and engagement with its heads and custodians. AboitizPower members provided positive feedback on the visit, including an action to connect with UB’s Linkages Office to provide industry application input on its technical/engineering curriculum. 

Through this meaningful partnership, the University of Baguio and AboitizPower reaffirm their shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and nation-building, paving the way for a more resilient and capable energy workforce that can meet the demands of a sustainable future.
