A significant step towards enhancing both professional skills among jail officers and rehabilitation prospects for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) was recently achieved at the Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory. A total of 35 Jail Officers and 30 PDLs successfully completed a comprehensive Housekeeping Training Seminar last January 31, 2025, a collaborative effort underscoring the vital link between the justice system and academic institutions.
The seminar was made possible through a dynamic partnership involving the University of Baguio School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety, the University of Baguio School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory. This inter-agency cooperation highlights a shared commitment to nurturing an environment of continuous learning and positive development within the correctional facility.

The training program delved into practical housekeeping skills, emphasizing the critical importance of cleanliness, organization, and discipline. These elements are not only fundamental for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and conducive living environment within the jail, but they also serve as valuable life lessons. For the PDLs, acquiring these skills represents a significant step towards successful reintegration into society, equipping them with practical tools and a sense of responsibility crucial for future employment and self-sufficiency.
The seminar was enriched by the expertise and insights of its distinguished speakers, Ms. Mary Joy B. Limpin, CGSP, and Mr. Klyde Angello Mortel. Their contributions were instrumental in providing a valuable learning experience for both the dedicated jail officers and the participating PDLs.
This successful initiative at the Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory serves as a clear demonstration of the power of collaboration in promoting holistic development and preparing individuals for a more positive future, both within and beyond the correctional system.
