It’s third time’s the charm for the University of Baguio Voices Chorale (UBVC). After winning multiple gold medals from two international competitions this year, UBVC reemerged as a powerful force in the world of choral.

The group’s expertise and brilliance in choral music was recognized by securing a spot in the National Finals Round of the most prestigious and biggest annual national competition for Filipino musicians, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA). The group delivered a flawless performance during the NAMCYA 2023 Regional Semi-finals Round held on September 16, 2023 at the Alcala Municipal Hall, Cagayan Province.

Two among three of the competing choirs in the Senior Choir Category were chosen to represent their respective regions for the National Finals Round. Among the two qualifiers of the Northern Luzon Cluster, UBVC will represent the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) whereas the Northwestern University Saguday Choral will represent the Ilocos Region (Region 1).

NAMCYA emerged through Presidential Proclamation No. 1173 which shall serve as the culmination and the highlight activity of the National Music Week Celebration every last week of November. In celebration of the competition’s 50th anniversary, it continues to recognize Filipino musicians who showcase exceptional talents and skills in various fields.

The NAMCYA 2023 is organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The National Finals Round will be held on November 21 to 26, 2023 at the Manila Metropolitan Theater in Manila, Philippines.
