Research performs a crucial part in supporting instruction and extension. Theories and concepts have come about as a result of numerous research undertakings. Meanwhile, extension services entail research studies as a means of assessing needs of depressed areas and communities. Research also assists in evaluating these services. The interaction of these three functions therefore cannot be denied. During the seminar on Institutional Research Management Series 1, sponsored by the CHED-CAR-Zonal Research Center-SLU-Program Cluster Implementer, held at the University of the Cordilleras last March 4, 2010, it was emphasized that the research culture of Philippine universities will be put to the test as the ASEAN open border economy in 2015 challenges the competitiveness of ASEAN countries. Duyanen, Director for CHED-Zonal Research Center for NCR II, is determined by research productivity of the universities. Do our researches count? Are they cited and indexed? The seminar disclosed that: While researches are claimed to be done in HEIs across the country, only a very small fraction of them actually...
