The UB Science High School can be considered as one of the pioneers of Science Education in the country.
In 1963, upon graduating from the sixth grade, some students all over Baguio took a special test. The students who passed were put together in one class and were called the Special Science Scholars Section (SSSS). Since then, an annual scholarship exam was being administered for the best and the brightest pupils. In 1967, the first batch of intellectually gifted students graduated, it was also the same year the UB Science High School was born. In 1970, the UB Science High School received its legal recognition.
For almost five decades now, the University of Baguio Science High School gained recognition as a consistent top performing school in the region in national achievement tests. But beyond academic excellence, the school is home of budding young scientists, outstanding athletes and artists who have won awards from various regional and national competitions.
A Culture of Excellence
What makes the school apart from others are its socially relevant programs like outreach activities and camping’s. It is in these programs that the school develops the totality of the youth – which they are not only academicians but young students who are able to respond to the needs of the society as well.
The school has consistently reaped Academic and Non-Academic awards and citations in local, regional, national and at times international competitions like Philippine Intel Science Fair, National Schools Press Conference, Debate tournaments, Speech Competitions, Sports Competitions, Science/Math Quiz Shows, and IT competitions to name a few.
The school is also very active in its involvement with civic organizations like BSP, GSP, Philippine National Red Cross, YMCA Hi-Y, and the Inter-act Club. These provide avenues for the students to develop their social and leadership skills.
