The University of Baguio (UB) School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety(SCJPS) conducted a seminar on disaster risk reduction management at the UB Audio Visual Room last Nov. 11.
The seminar included a lecture on disaster preparedness, protocol during disaster, and the do’s and dont’s in responding to a mass fatality incident.
Mike Kenneth Piluden of the Philippine Tactical Rescue Agency served as the resource speaker. Piluden is a registered nurse, an emergency medical technician, and an incident management team officer. He has a post-graduate degree in health sciences with health informatics as his specialization.
In his lecture, Piluden emphasized a statement from American broadcast journalist Daryn Kagan: “Bad things do happen in the world, like war, natural disasters, disease. But out of those situations always arise stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
UB Forensic Science students attended the seminar, which was organized by the SCJPS Forensic Science Society. – Mark Anthony Bugtong
