Bacolcol during the summit
Ma. Vanessa Jean Bacolcol, a fifth year Accountancy student of the University of Baguio (UB), was among the 90 college students from around the country who gathered to learn about business and leadership during the Aboitiz Future Leaders’ Business Summit at Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu on Nov. 5-7 last year.
The summit included plenary discussions on leadership and management concepts, wherein the participants had the chance to listen to and interact and establish ties with executives from Aboitiz Group who shared their success story, leadership style and corporate environment experience. Teambuilding exercises were likewise organized. The group took part in an outdoor physical activity at RAFI Kool Adventure Camp in Balamban. They also toured some of the subsidiary companies of the Aboitiz Group, such as City Savings Bank, Persimmon (under Aboitiz Land), and Pilmico Foods Corporation. They likewise visited the ancestral house of Ramon Aboitiz, president ofAboitiz & Co.
The activity, sponsored by Aboitiz &. Co., is open to graduating students taking business, management, accounting, information technology, engineering or psychology. It is Aboitiz’s “way of affirming and inspiring a continued belief in the unique and outstanding capabilities of the Filipino among today’s youth.”
The participants underwent two phases of selection: the first is the evaluation of their academic performance, leadership and community involvement while the final phase is the final interview, wherein more than 200 applicants were shortlisted. From the 200 candidates, the 90 participants were selected. – Ma. Vanessa Jean Bacolcol
